@katemor Its not true that App Store no longer has El Capitan as download. It does not have it as download, if your Apple-ID has never registered a machine with El Capitan. Otherwise they are still there.
I am having almost this exact same issue, I have an old MacBook Pro that I have previously had El Capitan installed on. The hard drive has gone funny and now I need to re-install El Capitan. But the only other Mac I have is an iMac, and I cannot seem to legitimately find a way to download El Capitan.
Download Mac El Capitan Dmg
Catalina will not allow you to download El Capitan nor run the installer should you already have it. If you have the El Capitan installer, then you need to create a bootable USB flash drive installer. See the following instructions. I have put the El Capitan in bold. Below it is the command line you need to create the bootable USB flash drive installer.
First, review this introductory article: Create a bootable installer for macOS. Second, read this How To outline for creating a bootable macOS installer. Simply use the Terminal command by copying and pasting the command line for the version of macOS from the list below. You will need an 8GB or larger USB flash drive that has been partitioned and formatted for use with OS X as well as an installer for the desired macOS version that you have previously downloaded from the App Store.
Action required to continue auto-updates on Receiver. if you are experiencing an error message when checking for updates described in article CTX234657 ( ), please download the Receiver Auto Update Tool above. Explanation: A new security certificate was recently released to further enhance the security of Citrix Receiver. However, this certificate disables Receiver Auto-Update functionality. It is important that you download and install the recently released Receiver Auto Update Tool to restore Receiver Update functionality.
You may also encounter issues if you are trying to download an older version of macOS that your Mac cannot support. Usually when Apple introduces a new Mac it will not be able to run the version of macOS that shipped before the one installed on that Mac. The older macOS might not support certain components in that Mac, for example.
If the old version of the OS you are after predates Snow Leopard and you have a developer account you might be able to get it from developer.apple.com/downloads. If you search within the OS X category you should see downloads for all versions of OS X, at least from version 10.3 to 10.6.
In most cases, the downloaded dmg file is actually corrupt or had an error downloading. If possible, try downloading the dmg again, turning off any download assistant plug-ins you may have. You can try downloading the file in a different browser as well. Or if you don't need to be logged in to the site to download the file and you want to be fancy, you can try curl -O url in Terminal to download the file. (There's an example of that in my screenshot below.)

With OS X El Capitan, Apple has built on many of the changes that were brought on by Yosemite. And as with previous OS X versions dating back to OS X 10.7, El Capitan is only available for install via download from the App Store.
I am trying to erase the hard drive of my Mac Retina but the security system does not allow me to open disk image: 2this is an app downloaded from a non identifier developer. It does not allow me to add an exceptionEvenmore, the computer does not open after a reboot if any key is pressed.I am crazy. It seems like a virus is trying to prevent its dead.
Speaking of Terminal, Armin Briegel has written on his Scripting OS X blog that the softwareupdate command has a new option in Catalina that lets you download the full installer for a specific version of macOS. This seems to work with versions of 10.14 Mojave and 10.13 High Sierra, but nothing older.
Is there a way to see when the signing certificates expire? I thought I knew how, but when I use that procedure it shows the Mojave and Catalina installers I just downloaded expiring in April of 2021 (which is better than last Thursday, but still only 1.5 years away.)
When I try to get the High Sierra or Mojave installers, the link takes me to a page where the link only takes me to the app store where those installers do not appear anywhere that I can see. The links for El Capitan, Sierra, and Yosemite got me to a page where I could download a dmg so those seem to work. 2ff7e9595c
